Eyes are the mirror of ones health and happiness. Whatever smile you put on, the shine and sparkle or the dullness and sadness of your eyes say it all. Long long poems have been written by lovers and poets on the beauty and the mesmerizing effect of eyes. When such is the magic of eyes, definitely you would want to preserve them forever. They do not demand much from you. Just a few simple dos and donts which you need to incorporate in your daily routine to be the proud owners of lovely eyes.

1. Dark circles and wrinkles are the most common and yet the most powerful enemies of eyes. To keep them at bay, just invest in an adequate 6-8 hours undisturbed sleep and a lot of rest.

2. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables like carrots, drumstick, spinach., papaya and mangoes which would provide for the beta carotene which helps to have healthy eyes. Also drink at least 12 glasses of water to avoid any kind of puffiness in the eyes. Water keeps your eyes moist and flushes out waste from the body.

3. Exercise regularly to improve blood circulation. Wondering what kind of exercise for the eyes? It is simple for sure… Blinking, blinking and more blinking… Blinking is a good massage and exercise to the eyes keeping it moist and providing it with oxygen.

4. Avoid those harsh rays of the sun which could be a fatal attack on your eyes. Invest in a good pair of glares and be sure to use them whenever you step out in the sun.

5. If your work involves long hours before the monitor, be sure to avoid working for more than an hour continuously on the computer. Blink purposely every 15-20 minutes 5-10 times before resuming work. Glance away from your screen every now and then while your work. Remove as much glare as you can either by using an anti glare screen, by choosing colors that don’t cause glare or by changing the angle or location of your monitor. Glare causes serious eye strain and headache.

6. Always read in good illumination. Ensure that the light falls on the paper that you are reading and not on your eyes. As far as possible, the light source should be behind you and should illuminate the paper you are reading.

7. Use a clean cotton ball dipped in milk to clean your eyes. Milk is a good and safe natural cleanser. Inserting in 2-3 drops of pure rose water in the eyes adds a glow to them. Regularly apply oil mixed in glycerin to your eye lashes and eye brows to keep them dense and dark. Place a slice of potato or cucumber on both the eyes, after 10 minutes remove and wash the eyes. This helps to avoid under eye wrinkles and dark circles around the eyes.

8. If you are above forty, your eyes need special care. Yearly checkup is a must to rule-out insidious diseases like glaucoma, which are common after the age of 40. Get a pair of glasses with your ophthalmologist if you are facing problems in reading, passing thread through a needle or any other near work.
