Titan lasers - The new breed of skin laser

Monday, May 11th, 2009

The Titan laser is a non-invasive solution for treating loose skin and offers several benefits. Titan utilizes a safe, infrared spectrum of light that is delivered to the dermis well below the outer skin’s surface. There is no down time and no external injury to the skin. There are no external wounds to care for. A person can return to work right after the cosmetic procedure. It helps stimulate collagen production and can increase the firmness of the skin a few months after treatment. If you’re looking for a simple way to improve skin tone and texture, here’s what you can expect from your Titan treatment.

The procedure can be utilized on a variety of areas including the face, neck and body. The most frequent areas receiving Titan Laser treatment is the facial area, the forehead, neck, cheeks and jowl are the most popular areas. In addition other regions such as the stomach, thighs, and arms can also be effectively treated. The procedure is especially effective in treating the more difficult regions of the body such as the knee and elbows regions.

How the Titan Procedure Works?

The Titan laser can firm up loose skin that is a result of weight loss, aging or pregnancy; Since the laser works by stimulating the formation of new collagen, ideal results will take approximately three to eight months to materialize. While this laser procedure is very effective it does have limitations. Individuals with advanced skin aging coupled with sun damage and excessive wrinkles may not be the best candidates for the Titan laser procedure. Titan laser therapy can be combined with other facial rejuvenation treatments for a complete body or facial makeover. The results of Titan Skin tightening technology may be seen within a few weeks of the treatment, however the full benefits are usually not observed for three to six months. This is probably the most difficult part of this procedure as the effects of the treatment are not seen immediately.

Key Benefits of the Titan Skin Tightening Procedure

  • Look years younger
  • Treats lax and sagging skin
  • Versatile procedure
  • Reduce risk of injured fat
  • Stimulates long-term collagen growth
  • Visible results within weeks
  • Is safe, comfortable and non-surgical
  • Alternative to liposuction
  • No downtime

Enjoy the pleasures of motherhood without worrying

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Becoming a mother doesn’t mean you can’t look as good or better than before pregnancy.  Most women enjoy their pregnancy and are happy to become mothers. But for some, the physical changes caused by pregnancy can take away some of the joy. Pregnancy causes drastic changes in the body, but few women are able to restore their bodies to its pre-pregnancy status with diet and exercise alone. Today, there are exciting options in plastic surgery to help you regain your pre–pregnancy form. Many procedures offer a solution for women going through the post-pregnancy stages, helping to remove excess fatty tissue, improve the contours of the body, and even reducing breast size.

Sometimes this is called mommy makeover. Even a limited operation can have benefits for your self esteem. Knowing your options can help give you peace of mind so you can relax and enjoy your pregnancy or the new found pleasures of motherhood without worrying you’ll never look as good as before. So here are some of the procedures:

Breast Reduction Surgery

Some women experience extensive swelling in their breasts during pregnancy, and causes several hormonal changes and often leads to an increase in breast size; however, no amount of exercise will re-tighten this skin, the post-pregnancy period results in either a continued increase or steady decrease in breast volume, and this can cause discomfort.  An outpatient procedure called “mastopexy” can remove excess skin and reduce sagging. Your plastic surgeon can use local or general anesthetic to tighten skin on the lower half of the breasts, which lifts and firms them.

Stretch Mark Removal

Ugly stretch marks along the abdomen, underarms, inner thighs and buttocks are the most common problem areas for women post-pregnancy, and these can be corrected  by laser treatment. The top layer of the skin can be removed that encourages fresh cells to grow for smooth appearance through stretch marks treatment, such as blue light therapy.

Liposuction After Pregnancy

Nowhere else is pregnancy more evident than a woman’s abdomen. It was the nine-month home to your infant. An average weight woman can expect to gain 25 – 35 pounds during pregnancy, which gives birth to belly fat and extra fat around the abdomen and thighs. Liposuction is an outpatient procedure, and for small areas, can be done under local anesthetic. It is not appropriate for large fat deposits or for women who are generally overweight. It can re-sculpt the body, removing fat deposits that contribute to flabby underarms or bulges. Today’s innovative technologies are making liposuction a safe, effective and affordable treatment for many.

IPL - The ultimate solution to unwanted hair

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

For many men and women, unwanted hair can be a nightmare. Until now the only options for removing unwanted hair were smelly hair removal creams, sharp razors, stinging wax or painful electrolysis needles and time-consuming, but there is a permanent and painless hair removing option available that is IPL, an advanced approach to beautiful skin, provides the ultimate solution. The IPL process uses intense pulsed light to gently remove unwanted hair, putting an end to routine shaving and waxing and the treatments leave your skin feeling smoother and silkier.

Intense pulsed light therapy treats larger areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs and face rather than treating one hair at a time. This treatment is a safe, fast, gentle and effective alternative method for hair removal. The treatment works on most skin types and the total cost of treatment may be far lower than standard hair removal methods. Here’s what you need to know about the IPL laser hair removal procedure:

IPL works equally well on most skin pigmentations without removing any of the pigment for both men and women. IPL hair removal can also safely and effectively eliminate hair of all colors: blond, red, brown, black and even white. With the process, your doctor can gently treat hair in sensitive areas such as the bikini line, stomach, underarms and upper lip, at the same time maintaining a healthy, normal appearance of the surrounding tissue. The IPL laser hair removal device works by emitting a spectrum of light and heat energy directly into the hair follicle, effectively breaking down the hair and slowing down hair growth, as the hair follicle becomes weaker, the hair grows back at a very slow rate and eventually, does not grow back at all.

The benefits of IPL laser hair removal:

  • Little or no downtime.
  • It works equally well with light or dark hair and skin.
  • There is less chance for scarring and pigmentation change.
  • Less pain and discomfort compared to other hair removal treatments.
  • Combines the speed of shaving with the lasting results by electrolysis.

Cold laser treatment - The ‘laser-diet’ for a perfectly shaped body

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

If you are looking for size reduction through a clinically proven method that requires minimal effort on their part, this article is the one for you. Bader Sultan & Brothers Company, a leading Kuwaiti medical services and supplies company, has announced today the launch of a revolutionary cold laser treatment. This treatment uses a fat reduction technique to help shape the body. The laser is named ZERONA™ which is applied externally and provides results without the dangers associated with surgery.

The high-power, high-heat lasers have been conventionally in various surgical procedures. This new product, Zerona laser, has no thermal effect on the body’s tissue as it produces a low-level, or cold, output. In addition, this non-invasive cold laser helps the body emulsify fat by stimulating biological function. Excess fat is then removed naturally by the body without the negative side effects and downtime associated with more invasive procedures such as liposuction. Patients remain active during the treatment which utilizes the Erchonia.

Steve Shanks, President of Erchonia Medical, praised the product saying, “Our product has undergone extensive research over the last ten years and in 2004 achieved approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use during liposuction. Since 2006 it can be used as a standalone treatment. We know our cold laser can help so many people achieve their goals and contour their bodies with very little effort.”

“I am delighted that my company has signed this agreement with Erchonia Medical and is the first to bring this innovative solution to the Middle East. We are already in the process of establishing relationships with health clinics in the region to make this treatment easily available,” said Mr. Anwar Al Sultan, Chairman of Bader Sultan & Brothers Company. “Dubai Derma is the perfect way to launch the Zerona cold laser here and I am thrilled to have several expert doctors with us to demonstrate the benefits of this solution.”

“This is an amazing medical procedure that will provide relief for so many in our region without the potential hazards associated with invasive surgery and should be considered as an ideal alternative to surgery in select cases,” commented Dr. Ahmed Al Fadli, President of the Kuwait Plastic Surgery Society, Chief of Plastic Surgery in Kuwait, Vice President of the Kuwait Medical Association and the current President of the Pan Arab Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Association. “My clinical trials have demonstrated very positive results so far, with many patients experiencing a 12cms to 20cms reduction in waist and thigh size.”

Dr. Douglas Dedo of the Palm Beach Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and past President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery added: “This revolutionary treatment can work without any kind of surgery or the need for excessive dieting or exercise; though as a doctor I always recommend a healthy lifestyle for my patients. What is also exciting is that clinical studies have revealed that ZERONA™ can help in the treatment of acute and chronic pain relief as well as in controlling cholesterol and triglycerides.”

Are you tired of ugly hair bumps?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Hair bumps are a direct result of ingrown hairs and come from several things including: improper shaving, waxing, or tweezing techniques, a dirty barber’s blade, dead skin in the hair follicles, and coarse hair that grows in a tight curl pattern. The hairs grow straight, but at the end they curl back into the same hair follicle. The area becomes ugly and often becomes red in color. Razor bumps are nothing more than an inflammatory response from your body to the infections caused by the ingrown hairs. Bumps should be treated soon, because they tend to grow fast. The more you scratch your ingrown bumps, the more abrasions you will have. This condition is known as Pseudofolliculitis barbae. Here are some tips how to eliminate hair bumps.

Exfoliating: This is one way to treat hair bumps. This will help managing ingrown hair and it would only be possible if you use a face scrub that contains glycolic and salicylic acid. The face brush and liquid cleanser removes the tip of ingrown hair, to remove dead skins cells around the area.

Eliminating Lotion: Another fast and effective way to eliminate hair bumps is a bump eliminating lotion or in the from of serum. Both could be used to apply in the effected areas three times a day, for about a week or more. But avoid the product that contains synthetic preservatives.

Shaving: Wash the targeted area thoroughly with an anti-bacterial cleanser to avoid all the trapped dirt, bacteria, oil and debris. To get an easy, smooth shave, without the risk of hair bumps, avoid pulling of hairs at the time of shaving and use a single-blade razor.

Herbal Products: You can go for herbal products that are especially manufactured for the purpose of eliminating hair bumps, such as solutions that contain tea tree oil, neem, aloe vera and essentials oils of herbs.

Hygiene: Hygiene is the key to get rid of hair bumps. You should clean the shaving kit, every time, before using it. Razors and shaving brushes should be washed at least three times a week. At the same time, rinse the shaving kit after every use. Store it properly, in a shaving kit bag.

Pharrell Williams gets his tattoos burnt through laser surgery

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Planning to get your skin inked? Take a look at this before you jump into tattooing your skin. Pharrell Williams, a well-known sartorial icon for quite some time now, has opted for laser surgery to get his tattoos burnt off. He recently had the tattoos on his arms burned off at the Wake Forest Institute in North Carolina for Regenerative Skin Treatment. Once all the tats are totally removed, Pharell and his doctors will create new skin cells then graft the new tissue to his arms, replacing the tattoos.

In early 2008, he said, “”It’s going to be pricey, but f**k it, it’s worth it. I got fire on my arms! I’m a grown man! There’s an institute called the Wake Forest Institute in North Carolina for Regenerative Skin Treatment. It’s basically like getting a skin graft, but you’re not taking skin from your ass or your legs. These guys actually grow the skin for you.”

“Laser treatment b**ches! Extra crispy. See, no skin graft here, just pure laser pain,” Pharrell added. “This is our own version of Mythbusters! Laser is the new primer.”

So, welcome to the world of cosmetic surgery where it is not the pinch in the pocket which counts, but how far you can go to get what you want!!

Protect your skin from harmful UV rays

Monday, April 27th, 2009

It was only after 1990’s that the new concept of UV index was studied in an effort to halt the epidemic of skin cancer, which is increased by the sun exposure. UV rays have become an increasing concern these days. The scorching heat contributes to cataracts and lots of eye problems. So the index has intended some precautions, such as wearing sunscreen, hat and sunglasses for extra protection especially during summers, when the sun is most intense. Parents should be more cautious for their kids, as because by age 18 on average, people have been exposed to 80% of UV. Children hang around more, and thus the damage is cumulative, and the ill effect usually doesn’t appear for decades.

The index is measured as per the satellites measurement, the data is obtained in meters across the country. The index reports about the UV rays and its strength at noon in various locations nationwide. The index value has equally corresponding exposure levels, and its ranges from 0 to 15. It is minimal from 0-2, low 3-4, moderate 5-6, high 7-10 and lastly its very high when its above 10. The index takes consideration the effect of ozone depletion, which increases UV levels as well as clouds, haze, and pollution, which block some (but not all) UV rays. So the report is fair-skinned person would burn in less than 13 minutes, comparatively with the dark-skinned persons. Darker skinned person can tolerate higher exposure.

The difference between UVB rays and UVA rays varies. The one which causes a variety in sunburn and which varies in  intensity during various season of the year is UVB rays. Whereas UVA rays is constant throughout the year, and can damage the skin whether its sunny or cloudy. So the safest course is to use a sunscreen every day that is at least SPF 15 and contains zinc oxide, which will protect the skin from further damage.

Is cellulite bothering you? Go in for laser treatment

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

It has been the bane of every woman’s existence — the unsightly affliction we all know as cellulite. Many women have it in varying degrees, and unfortunately it appears to get worse with age. There are several ways to fight with and get rid of Cellulite. It is not just a problem affecting obese or overweight women. Average size and even thin women suffer from cellulite as well. It has been surveyed that 85% of all women have cellulite somewhere on their bodies. So to get rid of it, the best way is Cellulite-Laser treatment. The word Laser invokes in our mind a thought of a red hot beam burning our skin in an invasive and painful procedure, that also costs us a fortune but only banishes cellulite for a matter of weeks. But Laser treatment can undoubtedly be effective for a temporary fix. However, technology has developed much since the first laser cellulite cures were introduced. The main cause of cellulite is that the skin stem cells become weakened and lie dormant. The skin has the largest reservoir of stem cells in the human body. After the age of 22, your skin stem cells weaken and become sluggish, regenerating at a much slower pace. As skin regeneration slows, our fat cells become engorged and toxins get trapped creating the embarrassing and unsightly “orange peel” effect on the surface of the skin, also known as cellulite, which is easily curable. Some of the benefits of the use of laser in cellulite treatment includes:

1. Tightens and repairs dammed tissues.

2. It betters the blood circulation of the body.

3. Minimal damage without any burning sensation.

4. Flushes out the toxins and improves system in the area.

Burning out brain tumor through laser probe

Friday, April 24th, 2009

The brain is a soft, spongy mass of tissue. It is protected by the bones of the skull and three thin membranes called meninges. Watery fluid called cerebrospinal fluid cushions the brain. This fluid flows through spaces between the meninges and through spaces within the brain called ventricles. Now, a Shreveport neurosurgeon has taken brain surgery for the removal of tumors to a whole new level, finding a way to obliterate a tumor, with much less risk. A Louisiana woman was the first patient in the U.S. to have the procedure done.

In this new procedure Shreveport neurosurgeon had to open her skull to remove that tumor.  It’s the kind of surgery that leaves a big scar and comes with serious risks and a longer recovery time. But by the time another tumor appeared last fall, Dr. Patwardhan had a new tool to try: a laser probe, and he was looking for a patient willing to be the first. In this procedure, one just had to make a hole that will take to the middle of the tumor, burn the tumor and then the tumor will essentially evaporate. It involves making a small opening and going in and burning it. The other alternative was open operation.

This procedure leaves behind a small pinpoint incision, comparable to that size of the tip of a pencil. In addition to avoiding the risks related to anesthesia, the laser ablation probe is thin and slides through the brain with much less disturbance. It allows the surgeon to reach even deep tumors with far less risk, like the brain swelling that comes with conventional procedures.

Karen Mowad was able to stay awake through the procedure, and felt no significant discomfort. Since Mowad became the first patient in North America to undergo the procedure, several others have followed. For now, Dr. Patwardhan says they’re reserving the laser treatment for brain tumors as a last resort, as long as patients’ conditions meet certain criteria. It’s restricted for tumors where you can go into them, which are tumors that are not extraordinarily hard, but there are quite a few tumors that are amenable to this treatment.
