Studies Associate Cosmetic Surgery to Increase Chances of Depression and Suicides

Although a common belief associates cosmetic surgery to improve
self-esteem, there are recent studies that link cosmetic surgery to
depression related suicides. Individuals who go under the knife for an
improved physical appearance are increasingly obsessed about attaining
an attractive body. Cosmetic surgery procedures promise to deliver an
improved physique along with an increased self-esteem. Recent evidences
strongly suggest that people who undergo cosmetic surgery are more
likely to be suffering from psychiatric problems than an average
person. Studies also revel that mental health of the candidate is being
risked along with his physical well being when opting for a cosmetic
surgery.

Apart from severe depression cases suicides have been reported from
candidates who have had cosmetic treatment in near past. Cosmetic
surgery promises to invoke better feelings about personal esteem and
when such enhanced improvement is not perceived individuals are tempted
to commit suicide. Researches also mention that an high percentage of
people who undergo plastic surgery are taking drugs to treat a
psychiatric conditions, typically anti depressants.
