Appropriate Post Operative care is essential for successful laser resurfacing surgery

Benefits of laser skin resurfacing include tightening of skin,
removing scars, wrinkles, blemishes and correcting sun damaged skin.
Laser skin therapy is a medical operation and hence risks related to
surgery are also applicable to it. Surgeon’s instructions should be
carefully followed to avoid any complications and all potential risks
and expectations from the surgery should be discussed with the doctor
in detail. Any negligence in care after surgery can result in scarring,
infection or color changes in skin. All queries regarding
laser-resurfacing treatment should be cleared prior undergoing the
operation.

To make a resurfacing operation successful adequate postoperative
care should be exercised. Swelling and bruising can result as a side
effect of the treatment. Hence ice packs and pain medication must be
kept handy to ease the discomfort. A surgical dressing is applied to
the lasered area to facilitate fast recovery. But contrary to what
laser surgery marketing advertises the recovery time is a long period
and the final young skin appears months after the surgery.
