London- Plastic Surgery Center Inc. uses Altus CoolGlide® Device for Laser Hair Removal

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Altus CoolGlide® laser hair removal, used at the Glastonbury, Connecticut office serving Hartford and the New Haven area, is designed specifically to eliminate unwanted hair from the body. A non-invasive light therapy device, the Altus CoolGlide® laser produces a concentrated pulse of light that is directed through a cooled hand piece and gently applied to the treatment area.

The laser energy from CoolGlide® laser hair removal passes through the skin to the hair follicle. The carefully determined pulses of laser energy are then absorbed by pigment in the hair and hair follicle, which causes selective damage to the hair root without damaging other structures of the skin.

Some of the treated hair is wiped off immediately following laser hair removal while the rest is shed over the next two to three weeks. The body will reabsorb the destroyed hair roots.

Cooling gel pads applied immediately before and after laser hair removal protects the surface of the skin. This process selectively protects the skin, while simultaneously treating unwanted hair.

All that you should know about - APOGEE LASER

Monday, March 27th, 2006

The Apogee laser is FDA approved for hair removal. Originally this laser was designed to treat spider veins but was found to have a side effect of removing hair in areas applied. The technologic advantage over other existing hair removal lasers is that there is no need to wax or apply black dye prior to treatment. Preliminary data shows that one treatment the Apogee laser removes 80% of the hairs in the treated area. Since hair growth cycles through three stages of development and only 80% of hair follicles are active at any given time it will be necessary to do several treatments spread out over monthly intervals to have an effect on all the hairs.

The Apogee laser is being utilized for all skin types. People with fair skin who are not tan are the ideal candidates. If the patient were tanned prior to treatment, absorption of laser energy by tan would result in the formation of blisters, crusts or scabs. If the hair shaft is blonde or white, there will be no color for the laser to target. Ask about our waxing of lighter hair.

Basic Causes for Unnatural Superfluous Hair that Require Laser Hair Removal

Monday, March 27th, 2006

The principal cause of excessive hair in women originates in the endocrine system, which produces hormones. One of these hormones, androgen, causes the hair in the underarms, pubic area, legs and arms to grow coarser and darker. As a man produces more androgens, additional hair begins to appear on the face, neck, chest and back. When the level of androgens produced by a woman increases, the fine blonde hair often found on the face, neck and chest becomes coarser and darker-a condition known as hirsutism. Another factor related to hirsutism can be traced to certain steroid medications and some oral contraceptives.

One more common cause of excess hair growth is emotional trauma that can trigger hormones to produce more androgens. In women, the most common areas of unwanted hair we treat are the upper lip, chin, eyebrows, underarms, legs, bikini line, breasts, knuckles and toes. In men, the most common areas we treat are the back and chest.

LightSheer XC Diode Laser- The New Top-of-the-Line LONG Pulsed Laser

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery offers FDA- cleared laser for laser hair removal as well as permanent hair reduction for all skin colors and suntanned skin. It is the first location in the metro Atlanta area to offer this remarkable new laser treatment that will allow you to make shaving, painful electrolysis and waxing a thing of the past.

The LightSheer XC has a unique, special “long-pulse” mode. This feature allows the laser energy to be delivered more slowly, giving a greater degree of protection to skin with larger concentrations of melanin (Types 4-6: African-American, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Indian subcontinent, Asian, etc.) This feature also allows laser use on people with suntanned skin! In clinical studies, this long pulse feature allowed effective hair removal to be an option for EVERYONE, not only light-skinned, dark-haired individuals as is the case for many other laser systems.

IPL Hair Removal: Facilitates the Joy of Sleek and Bare Skin

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Surface MedSpa offers 40% discount on the first IPL Hair Removal Treatment. The clinic uses IPL devices exclusively for treatment. Lasers are an older technology that is being displaced by IPL. Firing a laser emits all of its energy in a very brief burst that can be quite painful. According to one laser treatment center up to 70% of their patients needed topical anesthesia. Hair removal lasers are also more likely to cause burns and are sensitive to technician error. IPL devices emit filtered white light over a much longer duration that treats a wider range of frequencies, is more effective, safer, and less painful. The pulse feels like a small rubber band snap.

Surface also provides No Hair Guarantee: If at any time a client experiences any regrowth of hair in the treated area within 2 years from the date of final treatment. According to the clients treatment protocol, he is entitled to make an appointment with any Surface Medical Spa to remove the unwanted hair free of charge.
