University of Virginia offers New Laser Hair Removal System
Tuesday, January 31st, 2006A new laser hair removal method is offered by the University of Virginia which is faster, safer, more permanent and less painful. The university is one of the first in the country to offer a service much better than other traditional methods of hair removal. A colored beam of highly concentrated light is produced that can disable several follicles at a time by vaporizing the pigment in hair follicles. A virtually painless hair removal is achieved using a special hand piece to cool surrounding skin while laser energy is being emitted.
Dr. Raymond Morgan, professor and chairman of the department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery at U.Va. Said that this was a tremendous advance in the field of hair removal. New laser delivers energy closer to the root of the hair hence elimination of 90 percent of currently growing hair follicles can be achieved. And the cooling hand piece removes the necessity of using anesthesia. The new laser is lighter than all other older lasers weighing less than 100 pounds and delivers light through fiber optic cable, which makes it easier to use.
